Usage – Primarily grown for chipping1,2,3; the standard for potato chip quality in the U.S. and Canada2,3,4; acceptable for French frying, boiling and baking1,3
Plant – Moderately large, upright1,2,4; thick green stems with distinguishing upward stippled pigmentation pattern; purple pigmentation in lower stems1,3
Leaves – Bright medium green color, closed, smooth structure; terminal leaves are large, ovate, and asymmetrical; three pairs of large, ovate, asymmetrical primary leaflets; numerous secondary and tertiary leaflets1,2,3
Flowers –Abundant, pale lavender color with orange anthers; numerous heavily pubescent buds1,2,3; produces large quantities of pollen1,2
Tubers – Oval to round, smooth with light to heavy scaly netted white skin; white flesh, shallow eyes; medium to long tuber dormancy; white sprouts with lavender internodes; high specific gravity1,2,3,4
Strengths – High yield potential; uniform tuber size and shape; tolerant to scab and Verticillium wilt; resistant to pink eye and select late blight races; highly resistant to race A of golden nematode, potato virus X and tuber net necrosis caused by current season potato leafroll virus infection1,2 ,3
Weaknesses – Hollow heart observed in oversized tubers (>.83mm)1,2,3,4; tubers susceptible to internal heat necrosis, particularly in sandy soils under warm dry growing seasons2,3,4; susceptible to metribuzin injury4
